What’s a Puggle?

Baby Platypus Peterpans Adventure Travel Austtralia

It’s a baby platypus… the cutest things EVER! (Sometimes they’re referred to as “Platypups”. Equally adorable!)

The platypus is a semi-aquatic mammal and can be found up and down the entire Eastern coast of Australia, including in Tasmania. Kind of looking luck a cross between a beaver, an otter and a duck (a “Beavottuck??”), they may be as cute as a button, but the males are also venomous, having a sharp barb on their rear feet that they can administer a poisonous jab to predators with. Ouch!

The platypus (female, obviously) is one of only two mammals that lay eggs, the other being the Echidna. They’re a weird mob here in Australia.

If you’re heading to Northern Queensland, you might even see some on this tour.

7 things to do on a rainy day in Sydney

So you’re sitting in the hostel and it’s pouring with rain outside. Don’t let the wet weather ruin your day. Get out there and enjoy Sydney’s wet weather attractions

Here are 7 of what we consider to be the ” Peterpans must do’s” in Sydney when it’s wet outside.

Sydney in the Rain

1. Hit the Surf.  We’re Serious!

It’s not like you can get any wetter right? When it rains the crowds head home and you get the beach mostly to yourself.  So you only need to embarrass yourself in front of the rest of the surf school and not the entire beach. Win!

Check out: Cronulla Surf School, 8 Cronulla St, Cronulla 2230. (02 9544 0895)

And: Mojosurf, Sydney Surf School, (1800 113 044)

2. Macquarie Ice Rink

Get your skates on and show of your “Blades Of Glory” skills at Macquarie Ice Rink.  Don’t miss out on the Friday Night Disco session either.

Call on:(02 9888 1100), Macquarie Centre, Cnr Waterloo & Herring Rds, North Ryde 2113.

Kingpin Bowling Sydney3. Bowl-a-rama!

When’s the last time you went ten pin bowling?  Far too long we say!  Head down to the King Pin Bowling lounge, grab a beer (that’s right they have a bar) and your bowling shoes and hit the lanes.  If bowling isn’t really your thing then relive your best mate’s birthday from when you were 10 and have a go at their Laser Skirmish Arena.  Woo Hoo!

Where Kingpin Bowling Lounge, Lvl 3, Harbourside Shopping Centre, Darling Harbour 2000 (132 695).

4. Visit a Museum. You might learn something.

Don’t worry.  Museums have come along way from when you were 13 and on that boring school trip. Go to The Powerhouse Museum for all things interactive, or if you are really out to learn something then go the Australian Museum for all things educational.

Where The Powerhouse Museum, 500 Harris Street Ultimo, PO Box K346 Haymarket, Sydney NSW 1238, Australia.

or the Australian Museum,  6 College St Sydney, NSW 2010 Australia

Coyote Tuesdays5. Grab a Drink

What better thing to do on a rainy day than go to the pub and have a few drinks?  Sydney has a pub pretty much on every street corner so you are spoilt for choice.  Head to the Trademark Hotel on Tuesday nights for Coyote Tuesdays. Free entry (normally $20) before 9pm with wine and pizza when you get a ticket from us for the official Peterpans Pre-party.  Get in early though as the queue gets HUGE! See us at any Sydney store for your ticket.

Trademark Hotel1 Bayswater Road, Kings Cross, New South Wales

6. Harness your inner child at Intencity Broadway

Revert back to being a kid and hit the arcade games. You don’t even have to bug your parents for cash. You are your own boss and you will waste your money on arcade games if you want to (take that, Dad). Seriously this place is awesome.  You can play for 2hrs non stop for $15 dollars. Only on Fridays (4-6pm), Saturdays (5-7pm) and Sundays (10am-12 noon).

Where, Broadway Shopping Centre, 1 Bay St, Broadway 2007. (02 9281 5811).

7. Play some pool at the Shark Bar

Tell your mates you’re useless at pool then fleece them for all their cash, you pool shark.  This place is great with 14 pool tables, bar and 2 widescreen TVs. There is no way you can get bored.

Where, 127 Liverpool St (Cnr Pitt St), Sydney 2000

Don’t let the rain get you down guys.  The sun will be out soon!
