There are not many places in the world where you can see these incredible creatures. A swim with whale sharks is something you don’t easily forget… It is an expensive experience (well, not for me of course
) but if you have the option to see these biggest fish in the world from up close, you might as well spend some bucks on that!
Even seen the fact I didn’t pay, I think it is definitely worth the money, and so thought the rest of the passengers. The whole crew of Three Islands Whaleshark Dive really looked after us the entire time and did everything to give us a memorable day. There are some rules involved with whaleshark dives, but the crew puts it that way you won’t even notice it (like the amount of time you can be in the water with the sharks, the plane that spots the sharks for several boats and how close you can approach the sharks). There is an airplane flying above the boat to spot the sharks for several boats, but we had the exclusive use of it so we were always the first to jump in, which gave us the opportunity to spend as much time with the whale sharks as possible.
The first time I saw the whale shark I shivered. They are so huge and so calm! I cannot describe the feeling you get when you are swimming next to a 8 meter fish…it is unreal that under the water such huge animals find their way on just plankton, because that’s all they eat. Most of the time we were trying to keep up with the whale sharks, but even though they are moving quite slowly, for a human it’s still hard to catch up. One time though the shark turned around and we had a full-on view on his mouth and body, amazing!
In total we saw three whale sharks with the biggest one being 8 meter! We even spotted some manta rays from the deck, as well as dolphins, (dugongs) sea cows, turtles and a huge stingray.
This day will be in my memory forever and thanks to all the wonderful crew of 3 Islands, it will be a very good memory! They even gave us free DVD with photos of us with the whale sharks, so I really can prove I swam with them (actually, on all the photos listed here, its always me swimming!).
