Applying for your 1st year visa

If you are going on an Australian Working Holiday you need to appy for your first year visa. This can be really easily done through www.immi.gov.au. Go to the visas, immigrations and refugees tab and click on visitors on the left side. Then click to Working Holiday and you will find all information about the working holiday.

Depending on what country you are from, click on the correct subclass visa (the countries are listed on the page). Make sure you are over 18 but under 30 years old when you apply for your visa and that you are outside of Australia when you lodge your application. If you have read all the information it is time to apply for your visa. Have all your details available to you as well as your creditcard to pay for the application. My 417 visa costed 270 dollar and you will not get that money back. Enter all your correct information, pay and lodge your application! If you are not able to finish your form at once, you can save it and continue with it later but it goes quicker if you just fill out everything right away. It took about 7 hours to get my visa emailed to me and I hadn’t any problems with it at all.

Your visa allows you to enter Australia in the next 12 months after it was granted and will be valid another 12 months from the date of entering.
When you enter Australia you will not get a visa in your passport but it is all managed electronically. Print out your email confirmation though because you will need it when applying for a job.

If you wish to stay longer than a year in Australia you have to do three months of farmwork before you can apply for your second year visa. I will tell everything about that in the next blog.
